UoH collaborates with US based Indiana
University
Hyderabad|India|September'2011: Against the background of
intensified US-India relations and the announcement of the Obama-Singh
21st Century Knowledge Initiative recently, University of Hyderabad, one
of India’s top-ranked central universities, has yesterday signed a
broad-based Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indiana University, one
of the leading universities in the United States. The MoU was signed by
President of Indiana University, Prof. Michael McRobbie and by Mr. C.P.
Mohan Kumar, Registrar, UoH, respectively, on behalf of the two
institutions, in the presence of in-charge VC Prof. V. Kannan, Director of
International Affairs, Prof. Vinod Pavarala, and the deans of various
schools of study.
Founded in 1820 Indiana University (IU), is a major multi-campus public
research institution, grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, and a
world leader in professional, medical, and technological education. The
MoU with UoH envisages, among other things, academic exchange in the areas
of medicine, chemistry, physics, economics, business, informatics,
mathematics, and computer science; R&D collaborations; training and
teaching; organization of joint seminars, symposia, and conferences;
exchange of information regarding business ideas, product innovation and
all other relevant activities of mutual interest.
The high-level delegation led by President McRobbie also visited the
University’s successful Study India Program (SIP) facilities and evinced
keen interest in sending study abroad students from Indiana. The SIP
currently hosts about 200 international students every year who come to
the University, typically, for a semester-length academic engagement.
As an initial step towards operationalizing the MoU, the two institutions
have started discussions on organizing a joint symposium on Innovation and
Change in Science & Technology Teaching and Research in January..
