‘Youth Excellence Award’ at the just concluded Youth Assembly of
India in city

Hyderabad|India|October'2009: Three outstanding projects taken up
by youth NGOs and students were awarded Youth Excellence Award at the
‘Youth Assembly of India’ here at Sri Sathya Sai Nigamagamam, Sri Nagar
Colony, Hyderabad. Organised with an aim to celebrate the service of India
’s youth, the ‘Celebrating Service Contest’ saw participation by about
thirty youth projects. The three most outstanding projects were awarded a
cash prize of Rs 50,000, Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively. Abhyasa
Residential Public School, the organisers of the Youth Assembly instituted
the Youth Excellence Award this year to spread and encourage social
responsibility. The first, second and third prizes were bagged by ‘Just
Change’ from Hyderabad, ‘Bhadyath’ from Visakhapatnam and ‘Diffusion’ from
Hyderabad respectively. The winners were selected based on their projects
presentation in the Youth Assembly. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Vinayak
said that this is the first time in India that a private educational
institution has come forward to encourage youth at the school and college
level engaged in community service. It is our effort to recognise the
unsung talent and bring it to the forefront by giving this award as a
social encouragement, he said.
Organised by Abhyasa Residential Public School , Toopran and Passionate
NGO’s Master Chaitanya, a youth achiever the two-day Youth Assembly was a
conglomeration of youngsters who wish to make a difference to their world,
informed Mr. Vinayak Kalletla, Founder Principal, Abhyasa Residential
Public School . The Youth assembly organised with an aim to sensitize
youth towards community service and social entrepreneurship saw
participation by hundreds of youth from various colleges and universities
across India . The winners of the Youth Excellence Award were given away
prizes by Chief Guest Popular Telugu film actress Jamuna at the closing
ceremony late evening on Monday.
‘Just Change’, a youth established NGO from Hyderabad was adjudged as the
winner and bagged a cash prize of Rs.50,000/- The primary aim of the
community centric NGO is to the build the community by encouraging young
people to lead and be the change (Youth Empowerment). It educates the
under privileged children. Its project concentrated on the underprivileged
children of Alwal. It has taken up several projects such as Childrens
Carnival, Summer Camps, Youth Empowerment besides others.
The Second place in the Celebrating Service Contest was bagged by ‘Bhadyath’,
an NGO by a group of students in Visakhapatnam . Its project SMRITI -
Guiding to Better Life guides the rural young towards a brighter
opportunities and life. Its members set out to remote, rural government
schools and empower students by conducting career awareness camps and
seminars. It also focuses on physically challenged children and strives to
make them independent by bring out their latent talents and marketing them
like paintings, candles, wall mats, etc.
Hyderabad's ‘Diffusion’, a small group of students got the third prize in
the Celebrating Service Contest for 'Curbing the evolution of Geriatric
Desolates' project. Diffusion tries to create awareness amidst today's
youngsters about the increasing number of old people who are being
abandoned and ignored by their very own blood. As an initiation to this,
they have made a short documentary through which they foresee to transform
today's youth into tomorrow's responsible children.
Over the two days several celebrated achievers from the field of
administration, sports, entertainment, social activities and social
entrepreneurs shared their success stories and initiating panel discussion
to inspire the youth and student participants. Various speakers such as
Dr. K. S. Ratnakar, Chairman, Global Medical Education & Research Centre;
J.M. Lyngdoh, Former Chief Election Commissioner of India; Dancer
Padmashri Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayanth; Mrs. Karuna Gopal, President,
Foundation for Futuristic Cities; Kota Siva Kumar; Actor and Social Worker
Raja; Swami Agnivesh, President, World Council of Arya Samaj; Syed Sultan
Ahmed, Founder - Activity India; Dr. B.V. Pattabhi Ram; Kanthi Kannar,
Founder - Right to Walk; Mr. Sateesh Andra - Venture Capitalist spoke at
the assembly and took part in panel discussions on “Youth Led
Transformation or Youth need Transformation” and “Youth Involvement -
Opportunities and Perspectives”.
