Hyderabad|India|December'2011: Winning spree continues. City kids
proved again. This time with improved performance. They outbeat the tough
competition from across India. Two city kids excelled in the just
concluded 8th National Competition on Abacus and Mental Arithmetic. They
emerged as National Champions. Andhra Pradesh stood third in the medals
tally. Overall Andhra Pradesh bagged four champions two from Hyderabad and
one each from Kakinada and Narsaraopeta.
Bhanuprakash J.N., a 12-years-old boy of Level - GM-C and Rishima M.,
7-years-old girl of Level - 1 A emerged Champions. These two kids are two
champions out of 11 Champions from across India. They fought fiercely with
4300 kids from 15 states and 500 centers from across India. Bhanuprakash
is a student SIP Academy Begumpet Center and Rishima of Bowenpally Center.
“Competition was tough. Initially I was scary. Looking at so many people
taking the test at one ago was unimaginable. But I found very friendly
atmosphere. I garnered strength and focused on my strengths”, said proud
Bhanuprakash.
“I did not know that we competed with over 4300 children in the age group
of 5-12 years from 500 centres from 15 states of India. Even then I
managed to do well. Today my chest is swollen with pride. And I would like
to work hard and win more laurels ”, he added.
For 7 years old Rishima it was her first major competition. She never
participated in similar events. Though I was nervous initially, the moment
the whistle was blown, I concentrated on my sums. Regular practice at home
helped me to solve sums faster than my peers, she said.
The kids had to solve 120+80+80 mathematical sums in just under 5+3+3
minutes depending on the different levels. The speed has considerably
improved commented Mr. J. Sampath Kumar, State Head of SIP Academy Andhra
Pradesh.
The computing skills of our city kids are on par with the best in the
world observed Ms. Rajeshwari Nandan, SIP Local Centre Head.
The early age exposure of this competition helps kids on long run. Month
before the contest, we focus on few select kids and gave them excellent
practice, that is what gave them the edge over others, informed Ms Lalita
Raman, another SIP Local Centre Head.
Beside the two Champions, the city has also produced ten runners up. They
include R. Venkata Sravya of Level - 5; Disha Mundra of Level - GMA; K. V.
S. Bharggav of Level - GMC; Pravek Trivedi of Level - GMC, all from SIP
Local Centre from Begumpet. Akshaya S. Iyer of Level - 2 A (below 9 yrs);
Aishwarya M. of Level - 2 A (below 9 yrs) are from Bowenpally SIP Centre;
Munavalli Shreya of Level - 4 B (above 9 yrs); Patibandla Sai Shankar of
Level - 4 A (below 9 yrs) from SIP Centre Mehdipatnam and Sujal Saraf of
Level - 5; Aayush Malani of Level - 6 from SIP Centre Paradise.
Both the above champions as well as the TEN runners-up now got an
eligibility to compete in an International Competition to be competed from
students across 24 countries such as UK, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka,
Oman, Bahrain, UAE, South Africa, Phillippines, China, New Zealand, USA,
Canada, Kuwait, Australia and Vietnam next year aborad.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. J. Sampath Kumar said in this competition,
the contestants were tested in concentration, confidence, intelligence,
speed and accuracy of the participants. The objective of the competition
was to develop a competitive spirit amongst these children and motivate
them to excel in the program. SIP India has 560 plus centres across India
training 1,50,000 kids.
Adding further Mr. J. Sampath Kumar, State Head of SIP Academy Andhra
Pradesh said the SIP Abacus and Brain Gym program has benefited children
enormously in developing their concentration, visual memory, listening
skills, confidence and also their arithmetic skills. We have numerous
