Hyderabad|India|June'2010: The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is

Tirumala and to have the darshan of the Lord Sri Venkateswara. On the next
day, on 10th July, 2010, he will leave for Mannavaram and will lay
Foundation Stone for the NTPC-BHEL joint venture Power Plant Manufacturing
Project at Mannavaram village, near Srikalahasthi, Tirupati. Dr. Manmohan
Singh will also lay foundation stone for the Tirupati International
Airport on 10th July. As per the directions of the Chief Minister, the
draft tentative minute-to-minute tour programme of the Prime Minister to
Andhra Pradesh on 9th and 10th July was sent to the PMO. The Prime
Minister's Office will approve the programme schedule shortly. The Prime
Minister is likely to unveil the Golden Jubilee Pylon of Sri Venkateswara
Medical College at Tirupati during his visit and will address a Public
Meeting there.
The Chief Minister had preliminary discussions over the arrangements
on the Prime Minister's visit and about the two prestigious projects with
Chief Secretary, S V Prasad and other senior officials at Secretariat. The
Chief Minister said the NTPC-BHEL power equipment project at Mannavaram is
a proud achievement of the Government of Andhra Pradesh, particularly the
then Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who strived hard to get the
project established in the State. Dr Rosaiah said the Joint venture
company would establish a Greenfield industry for manufacturing Power
Plant equipments with a total investment of Rs.6,000 crores and proposed
to provide direct employment to 6,000 persons and indirect employment to
25,000-30,000 people. The NTPC-BHEL Joint Venture company was incorporated
on 28-4-2008 to carry out Engineering, Procurement, Erection,
Commissioning etc for power plants as well as infrastructure projects. The
Chief Minister said the State Government is determined to go in for
massive infrastructure development in the State for economic
It's a long cherished desire of the lakhs of devotees and the people of
the State to have an international airport at Tirupati. Tens of thousands
of devotees from all parts of the country and abroad throng the most
famous pilgrim Centre of India, the Tirumala temple, to have the darshan
of Lord of Seven hills. The Ministry of Civil Aviation two years ago
decided that the existing airport be upgraded to International Airport
with construction of new integrated terminal building with all modular
facilities and extension of existing runway by 984 meters. The Airport
Authority of India has agreed to bear the capital expenditure of Rs.300
crores while the State Government provides the required land of about 718
acres. The State Government has handed over advance possession of
Government lands and DKT lands totalling 293.05 acres located in Renigunta.
Meanwhile the Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister for naming the
Project site of NTPC-BHEL joint venture at Mannavaram village of Chittoor
District as "YSR PURAM". Earlier the Chief Minister wrote a letter to the
Prime Minister Dr Man Mohan Singh requesting him to name the NTPC-BHEL
Project after late Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. BHEL has proposed that the
whole industrial area where the manufacturing plant would be set up at the
land provided by Andhra Pradesh Government near Mannavaram village of
Chittoor District can be named as 'YSR' Puram, as a tribute to late Dr.
Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who had been encouraging and supporting the joint
venture company. The manufacturing plant when fully established will have
its own township having quarters and facilities like school, health
centre, community hall, clubs, play ground etc.
The Chief Minister hoped that the NTPC-BHEL joint venture project second
phase would be completed by 2013-14. He assured all help for the early
completion of the project from the State Government side. Dr Rosaiah also
directed the State Government officials to lay a 4-lane road at Mannavaram
and connect it to the nearest National Highway. The project will enable
setting up of more than 400 ancillary units.
The Chief Minister said the ultimate objective of the Government is to
make Andhra Pradesh as the Number One industrialised State surpassing
Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other developed States in
the country. Dr Rosaiah said the latest industrial policy approved by the
cabinet few days ago envisages to achieve a manufacturing growth rate of
17%; create additional employment to over 5 lakh persons per year -- 2
lakh directly and 3 lakh indirectly; with special focus on Micro, Small
and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Food Processing; facilitate reduction
of regional and sub-sector imbalances; leverage the existing sectoral
strengths as well as the natural resources for value addition. He said
that is the very reason the State Government decided to establish the
NTPC-BHEL Joint Venture Project in an industrially backward area in
Chittoor District.
