APTRANSCO bags yet another award

Hyderabad|India|October'2010:
APTRANSCO has done it again. APTRANSCO has been chosen as the Best
Performing Utility (State) under “Utilities and T&D Awards of 4th ENERTIA
AWARDS 2010 “.
The award is conferred on APTRANSCO, in recognition to its efforts in
achieving the lowest T&D losses in the Country and for maintaining an
impressively high Transmission System Availability.
Addl. JMD (Distribution & HRD) Mr.K.Ranganatham received the honour on
behalf of APTRANSCO at a grand ceremony organized on 06-10-2010 at Mumbai.
Former Secretary, Power, Government of India Shri Anil Razdan presented
the honour in the presence of Sri Suresh Prabhu farmer Minister for Power,
Government of India and Sri D.V.Kapoor farmer Chairman and Managing
Director of NTPC and other stall wards in Power industry.
The Award is organized by FALCON Media in association with M/s Patel
Engineering. Mr.Razdan applauded the achievement of APTRANSCO.
Transmission and Distribution loss of Andhra Pradesh for the FY 2009-10 is
18.51% which is one of the lowest in the country. When DISCOMs have been
formed in April 2000, the T&D loss for FY 2000-01 was 34.8%. This
significant reduction in T&D loss has been made possible by implementing a
number of effective and efficient initiatives throughout the decade. Many
initiatives like implementation of innovative technologies, installation
of continuous monitoring systems and continuous regulation of operations
of DISCOMs are being executed to achieve further improvement in
performance both technically and economically ensuring high quality
service of power supply.
AP Power sector is the forerunner in adopting best practices in the areas
of operation, maintenance and protection of Transmission system. By using
the state of the art equipment like Thermo-vision cameras etc., regular
inspection of lines is being done and any corrective action needed is
being immediately taken so that the future interruptions are avoided. The
latest numeric relays are being used in protective switch-gear which
ensure quick isolation of faults and prevent damage.
Transmission availability has been another key area, which was
concentrated upon. The State’s Transmission Availability has been
consistently maintained over 99.5% and for the year 2009-10, the
availability Stands at 99.89%. The Principal Secretary, Energy, Suthirtha
Bhattacharya congratulated APTRANSCO for bagging the coveted award.
