UoH Chemistry team wins UK-India Biotech Pharma Contest

Hyderabad|India|September'2010:
Dr.Ashwini Nangia, Professor of Chemistry at
University of Hyderabad along with his team comprising a former School of
Chemistry at UoH, Ms. Monika Verma, CEO, Avance Phytopharmaceuticals,
Ahmedabad and Dr. Shiv Prakash, MD, Synchron Research, has been adjudged
the best team among three short-listed teams from Universities and
Research institutes across India at a UK-India Biotech-Pharma Business
Plan at the Nottingham University, UK.
This recognition carries prize money of Rs. 15 lacs given by the
Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and further
financial and expert support from the UK firms and researchers.
This honour testifies Prof. Nangia’s knowledge of innovation to market
ideas. The team has won the distinction for the project titled
‘Chalk2Salt’ in which insoluble drug molecules like Chalk dust is
transformed into high solubility solid forms as table salt.
BioPharm 2020, the UK-India Biotech Pharma Business Plan brings together
researchers, academicians and industrialists and is aimed to build bridges
between Biotechnology researchers and entrepreneurs in the UK and India
and help them develop their biotechnology and pharmaceutical business
ideas into commercially viable ventures.
Prof. Nangia, did his Ph.D from Yale University, USA and his research
interests include Supramolecular Synthesis, Host-guest Chemistry,
Polymorphism and Cocrystals.
