needs
Hyderabad|India|April'2009:
Chief Minister Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy who is camping in Delhi has
directed the Chief Secretary to have a detailed review of various day to
day problems of urgent nature concerning the people. The Chief Minister
told the Chief Secretary that the officials should see to it that there
should not be any problem for the common man. He asked the Chief Secretary
to constantly monitor the issues of power supply, drinking water
supply---both rural and urban including Hyderabad Metropolitan water
supply, prices of essential commodities, procurement of paddy/maize and
damages due to hailstorm etc., and take necessary remedial measures
immediately. The Chief Secretary briefed the Chief Minister about the
latest position.
He asked the Chief Secretary to have a detailed review of the issues of
urgent nature with the District Collectors in view of the severe summer
days. He said power has been procured from outside in view of the gap
between generation and ever-increasing demand for the last few months. He
said funds were not a criteria at all as far as essential supplies are
concerned. The Chief Minister said there are enough storage of water in
all the State reservoirs to meet the demands of drinking water supply for
the next few months and with proper monitoring and coordination, there
should be no scarcity of water at all in the State. If there are reports
of drinking water scarcity from any part of the State, the District
Collector concerned should take it up immediately and attend to it. If
necessary, they should immediately arrange as many tankers as needed. The
Chief Minister also directed his Principal Secretary, Mr.Jannat Hussain to
constantly monitor the situation regarding these issues.
As far as prices of essential commodities are concerned, the Chief
Minister asked the Chief Secretary to go in for market intervention,
wherever necessary, to control the prices. The officials of Marketing and
Agriculture departments should see to it that supplies of essential
commodities should match the demand. Traders and businessmen should not be
allowed to exploit the situation. Post-election period should not be
allowed to be exploited by the erring traders and middlemen and the
consumers' interest should be protected at any cost. He advised day-to-day
monitoring of the prices of essential commodities and vigilant and
enforcement department should also be involved in bringing to book the
erring traders and businessmen. Since gas supply started to all gas-based
power plants, power cuts will be removed completely in the near future
once the supply matches the ever-increasing demand. Right now the power
supply to consumers is comfortable.
Following the telephonic discussions with the Chief Minister, the Chief
Secretary Sri P Ramakantha Reddy will review the subjects of urgent nature
with the District Collectors, Joint Collectors, Principal
Secretaries/Secretaries and Heads of Departments at a video conference
from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. on Thursday, the 30th April. All District officials
have been asked to participate in the video conference, the Chief
