International Conference on “Frontiers of Interface between Statistics and Sciences” in honour of Prof. C R Rao, an eminent Statistician in City

The road from IIIT X Road to Alind factory in Lingampally has been named after Prof. CR Rao by GHMC. The Mayor of GHMC, Smt. Galla Karthika Reddy inaugurated the Pylon of the Prof. CR Rao Road in the presence of Dr. C Rangarajan, Chairman, PM’s Economic Advisory Council and Former Governor, RBI, Prof. Y V Reddy, Former Governor, RBI, Shri A Satyanarayana, Corporator, Gachibowli, Prof. Prakash C Sarangi, Pro Vice Chancellor, UoH.

Hyderabad|India|January'2010: An International Conference on “Frontiers of Interface Between Statistics and Sciences” is being organized by CR Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (AIMSCS) jointly with University of Hyderabad till 2nd Jan,2010 , in the University of Hyderabad campus.

The CR Rao AIMSCS was established two years ago in the University of Hyderabad Campus. The Institute was established on the advice of Padma Vibhushan Prof CR Rao, FRS as he felt that there is a strong need to improve the quality of research in the country compared to many other advanced countries. The sole aim of the Institute is to encourage advanced research in the areas of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, Economics, Econometrics and many related areas.

The Institute has its Governing Council, chaired by Dr. C. Rangarajan, Chairman, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and a Governing Body, presided over by Dr VK Saraswat, Director General DRDO, Secretary Department of Defence Research & Development and Scientific Advisor to Raksha Manthri, Government of India. The Institute has undertaken may research projects and is poised to grow to realize the dreams of Prof CR Rao. The Institute is organizing the International Conference in honour of Prof CR Rao who is in his 90th year and who spends about 5 months in a year in the Institute guiding the researchers and reviewing the research activities.

The conference is set to have three parallel tracks including:
i) Statistics, Probability, Environment & Geoinformatics
ii) Statistics in Biotechnology and Medical Research
iii) Applications of Statistics to General Econometric Issues.


Distinguished scientists, academicians, economists like Abel Laureate, SRS Varadhan; IEEE Medal of Honor Laureate, Thomas Kailath and Robert Koch Fellow, Professor Seyed E. Hasnain have agreed to give plenary talks. In the three parallel tracks, there are about 40 sessions and each session is having about three to five papers. About 100 invited speakers from abroad will participate and deliver invited talks; 600 participants have registered their names for the conference.

The Chief Post Master General, Andhra Pradesh Circle has consented to release a Special Cover in honour of Prof CR Rao on the opening day of the conference on 30th Dec, 2009.

The GHMC has issued a notification to name the road between IIIT, Hyderabad Junction to Alind factory, Lingampally as Prof CR Rao Road. The opening of the road is scheduled on 29th Dec, 2009 at 5.00 PM.

The conference will be very useful to researchers, industry, banks, insurance sector as many distinguished personalities are going to share their experiences and expertise on a common platform.
