Bhagwan Mahavir Jain Relief Foundation Trust has
been providing succour to many needy patients.
Today, Hyderabad is considered a diabetic capital.
Approximately 7% of the population is diabetic,
due to which sometimes kidneys fail. Patients need
dialysis, sometimes 8 to 12 times a month
depending on their condition. Each dialysis costs
anywhere from Rs 1200/- to 2000/-. The cost is so
much that needy patients cannot afford dialysis
regularly. The Trust formed by sixteen like-minded
Jain individuals has been extending financial help
to needy dialysis patients by providing coupons
with which they can get dialysis done at nine
associated hospitals at a concessional rate of
Rs.300/- only, against the normal rates of around
Rs 1200/- to 2000/-.
Started in July 2009 with one patient, up to March
2011 the trust has served 400 patients of which
currently 260 are receiving support from the
trust. Overall the Trust has supported 30,000
dialysis sessions till date spending 1.12 crore,
which means an additional saving of Rs.2 crore to
the patients since that is what they would have
paid otherwise informs Mr. Inderchand Jain. Apart
from this over 6000 Erythropoietin and iron
injections were given to the patients resulting in
a saving of over Rs.45 lakhs to the patients!
