STUDIES, UNIVERSITY OF HYDERABAD organizes National Seminar on “Managing
in an Uncertain Era – Embracing Change in
Service Economy”

Hyderabad|India|November'2009: A Three Day National Seminar is
being organized by the School of Management Studies, University of
Hyderabad which was inaugurated by Mr. Cornelis M. Keur, Consul General,
Consulate General of the United States of America, Hyderabad today at the
School of Management Studies Auditorium in the presence of dignitaries
including Mr. Patrick Moon, Principal Deputy Secretary of State and Prof.
Prakash C. Sarangi, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad. The
Chief Guest highlighted the need to pay attention to not only the IT
sector but also the agricultural sector. He also emphasized the need to
develop the manufacturing sector and achieve efficiency. He expressed his
happiness at the progress made by the University of Hyderabad which has
been ranked No.1 in the country and also School of Management Studies
which has registered on impressive growth in the last decade since its
establishment.
Mr. Keur said that the world wide economic recession had also affected the
number of visa applications and said that during recession it was
important to marshal resources and put them to a good use with a sharp
focus on the results.
In his key note address, Sri M. Gopala Krishna, Chairman, IIPA, A.P.
Regional Branch, said that change and uncertainty have to be managed
imaginatively and effectively by proper prioritization and implementation
within a focused time frame. It also requires constant monitoring, if
required needs mid course corrections. He said that corporates should
examine the issues relating to predictability, sustainability, riskability
, flexibility and profitability. Embracing change means welcoming and
accepting change. This involves a course of leading change more
importantly which is proactive in nature. The simultaneous changes
introduced by the US, China and India have given positive results and have
given hopes of an improved economic growth from 2010 onwards.
Though there are a host of factors which can affect and influence the
course of recession, it is important that corporates should continuously
plan and also prepare a contingency plan to face even worst situations.
Prof. V. Venkata Ramana, Dean of the School while welcoming the delegates
from all over India outlined the progress made by the School of Management
Studies, University of Hyderabad and the relevance of the seminar. He
highlighted the increased collaborative activities being undertaken by the
School and informed about the Global Entrepreneurship MBA programme to be
offered for the students of San Diego State University from next year.
Prof. Prakash C. Sarangi, Pro Vice-Chancellor mentioned that the
University of Hyderabad was constantly changing in view of the growing
competition amongst the Universities both nationally and internationally
which has resulted in it being ranked as No. 1 in the country. This was
because of its excellent record of teaching, research and extension work
over the years. He said that the University has always welcomed new ideas
and new concepts which are relevant and useful.
Prof. V. Sita, Seminar Coordinator gave details of the papers received and
the schedule for the Three Day seminar which would be very useful and will
throw up many practical and implementable ideas to face the uncertainty
and enables one to embrace change. The topics to be covered in the seminar
are Strategy/Governance/IT , Human Resource Management, Managing in an
Uncertain Economic Era – Innovations in Indian Banking Sector and Managing
Business in Uncertain Economic Era.
Dr. Mary Jessica, Faculty SMS, welcomed the guests and introduced the key
speakers.
Earlier, Mr. Patrick Moon, Principal, Deputy Assistant, Secretary (SCA)
from US Dept. of State planted a sapling to commemorate his maiden visit
to the School of Management Studies, University of Hyderabad which was
witnessed by the delegates and many professors from Hyderabad and
elsewhere who were the prominent attendees.
