Hon. Christopher Gardner QC, Chief Justice of Falkland Islands, UK
inaugurated a one-day HR Summit- 2011 on the theme “Leveraging Human
Potential for competitive advantage” and later delivered a
Distinguished lecture on “Dispute Resolution in 21st century-
Challenges, Scope & Opportunities” on 11 February 2011 at the School
of Management Studies Conference Hall, on the HCU campus.
Hon. Gardner called upon the management students to acquire the
intricacies of Law relating to contracts and agreements as world
economy is reshaping itself with mergers and acquisitions of
corporate bodies.
Given the present state of cases pending before the courts he
advocated for Arbitration as the best dispute resolving mechanism
outside the courts’ purview and hoped that arbitration system will
prevail in India for ensuring speedy justice and added that in the
era of bludgeoning economy, delayed justice will hamper the business
prospects and to deal with civil issues Hon. Gardner advised that
the ideal method of solving disputes is through mediators and
defined the role of mediators as catalyst, conciliatory and
empathetic.
The HR Summit is aimed at evolving a strategy to make HRM a
competitive advantage in the Indian context and serves as a platform
for the HR professionals in the industry to share their expertise
and experience in the current organizational context.
Prof. V. Kannan, Pro Vice Chancellor, presided over the lecture, Dr.
V. Sita, Associate Professor briefed on the HR summit, Prof. V.
Venkatramana, Dean School of Management Studies introduced the
speaker and towards the end Shri C P Mohan Kumar, Registrar proposed
a vote of thanks.
