Fire Accident of Sri Krishna School at Kumbakonam, Tamil Naidu in
which 94 school children were burnt to death and 31 children were injured
and to sensitize the school children, Teachers and School Managements on
Fire Safety the
Fire Drills have been conducted in the following schools on
16-07-2010 by the Fire Prevention Wing of GHMC in association with the A.P.
State Disaster Response and Fire Service Department

During the conducting of Fire Drills in the above Schools,
the Students were taught the following emergency procedures.
1. How to evacuate
from a building in case of fire or other emergencies like
Bomb threat, collapse
of neighboring building, etc. They were taught to evacuate in a single
line from the nearest exit in a silent and orderly manner and walk briskly
to the assembly place without over taking others.
2. How to protect
themselves if they encounter smoke. Demonstration was given on crawling on
the ground on knees and elbows.
3. How to protect
themselves if they are held up in a room in a fire accident and unable to
go out. Students were informed to close the door and keeping wet blankets
/ towels under the door, open the windows and call for help.
4. To stop, drop and
roll on the ground if their clothes catch fire.
5. To run cold water
if they receive burn injuries.
6. How to react in
a fire accident if they are in some public assembly places like malls,
multiplexes, Cinema theatres, Apartments etc.., they were
told to use only stair case and not to use lifts as they are likely to
struck in between floors due to power failure or loosing of controls in
the lift car or getting suffocated due to smoke
7. How to call
fire brigade.
8. Demonstration of
fire extinguishers’ use
The students had good interaction with the
fire officers and all their quarries were answered.
All the school managements in
GHMC, Jurisdiction are requested to conduct Fire Drills in their premises
to familiarize the students in emergency plan of action and Dos and
Don’ts.
A Book let has been released on this
occasion containing the
school Fire Safety.
