Hyderabad|India|January'2010: A 12
member Gunners Heritage expedition was flagged off by Brigadier GVG
Prasad, Commander, 54 Artillery Brigade in Secunderabad Cantonment
recently.
This leg of the expedition will cover the entire length and breadth of
southern India. The expedition team led by Major AK Singh will cover a
total distance of 3646 km in 15 days. The route includes Ongole, Chennai,
Pondicherry, Thiruvananthapuram, Coimbatore, Panjim and Pune. In order to
bring the Army closer to the local populace, over night halts have also
been planned at non military stations with the aim to motivate and
increase awareness about the Army in the Southern reaches of the country.
The expedition will also involve wreath laying ceremonies all along the
route by the Gunner adventures.
The Gunners of the Indian Army have embarked on adventure campaign to
unite the four corners of our country. The Bison Gunners set course on
motor cycles in order to commemorate the 12th Reunion of the Regiment of
Artillery. This leg, being undertaken by the Artillery regiments of
Southern Command is in consonance with three other motorcycle teams that
have been flagged off from Chandigarh, Poonch and Kohima. The expedition
will culminate with all four motorcycle teams meeting up at Nasik on 05
Feb this year.
The Regiment of Artillery, the second largest arm of the Indian Army,
known as ‘Gunners’ will be celebrating its XII Reunion from 04 to 06 Feb’
2010 at Devlali, Nasik. In order to commemorate saga of supreme sacrifice,
rich historical achievements and to foster higher spirit of dedication,
motivation and inspiration amongst troops, the Regiment is conducting
unique”Gunners Heritage Expedition”.
