The world’s
heaviest man records 450 kilograms weight
October
24th is the WORLD OBESITY DAY
Hyderabad|India|October'2009: Mr. Paul Mason, a British citizen
weighing around 450 Kilograms supposed to be currently world’s
heaviest man these days lives in a specially adapted bungalow and
spends all his time playing video games and watching movies. He is
bedridden for years and consumes over 20,000 calories in his daily
diet and has a current medical care bill on over 1 Million Pound
(i.e. nearly Rs. 8 Crores) annually. He is expected to undergo a
Bariatric procedure called Gastric Bypass, which is expected to
bring down his weight drastically.
He is so heavy that Hospital is planning to air-lift him from his
bungalow to the hospital as he cannot fit into any vehicle.
It may be noted that Manuel Uribe, a Mexican gentleman, who was also
acclaimed as the world’s fattest man, once weighing 570-Kilograms
has now lost almost one third (1/3) of his Body Mass with the help
of Doctors. The heaviest man ever recorded in the history was the
American John Minnoch, who weighed 635 Kilograms at the peek of his
weight. He was a resident of Bainbridge Island , Washington .
Obesity is on a rampage worldwide… World Health Organization pegs
the numbers of obese people at more than 300 million worldwide, with
a billion more overweight, who can be potentially obese. While this
is one of the extremes things are no matter for the man in common
across world including India . A survey few years back indicated
that world over there are more obese people than there are starving
or under-nourished people… what an irony!!!
Bad eating habits, wrong lifestyle, lack of exercise and genetic
factors for that matter… Obesity and super obesity, which is a
multi-factorial disease is continually becoming a menace and
difficult to handle.
Overweight and obesity can lead to coronary heart disease,
Dyslipidemia (high total cholesterol, high levels of triglycerides),
Gallbladder disease, Hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure),
Osteoarthritis, Sleep Apnea and Respiratory problems, Cancers,
Stroke and Type 2 diabetes. Women are the ones who are the worst
hit… Young women between 18 and 35 are gaining weight more quickly
than any other age group, and this is a concern because as many as
50 per cent of women with Obesity develop type 2 diabetes within
five years as per the observed trends.
Bariatric surgeries offer one of the most advanced and least risky
solutions to the obese and super obese people for reducing their
weight drastically.
