by an Indian NPO
Greentech
Foundation to present Safety Award to US Airways Pilot who safe landed jet on
water
India|January'2009: Greentech Foundation, an
Indian Not for Profit Orgnisation (NPO) with presence in USA today decided
to honour Chesley Sullenberger, Pilot of the US Airways jet by presenting
him an Outstanding Achievement Safety Award in an International Convention
Fire, Safety and Security to be held at Cidade De Goa in Goa in April
2009. Many individuals and companies from and India and abroad are
expected to be honoured during this occasion in April.
Giving details in a press note Mr. Kamleshwar Sharan, President of
Greentech Foundation who is currently on a visit in Dubai stated that the
soft landing on water allowed passengers to successfully evacuate from the
stricken aircraft. Thus pilot has done a marvellous job and saved many
lives and qualified for the honour, he informed.
Crash landing an aircraft is the most toughest job and that too safe crash
landing the same on water is even tougher. We gather from media reports
that Captain Chesley B. Sullenberger III was unfazed entirely during the
landing. Two minutes after he had taken off from La Guardia Airport,
flocks of birds blew up both his engines. He was unperturbed. He radioed
the airport, decided couldn't make it back there. He informed passengers
and then intelligently kept the wings of the Airbus out of the water as he
landed on the Hudson River in New York. All 155 passengers survived, which
is nothing short of a miracle.
"Accident hurts, Safety not. Nothing is more important than the health and
safety of employees in this case passengers. It needs commitment to
integrating health and safety practices into all aspects of work", said
Mr. Kamleshwar.
The objective of the meet on Safety to be held in India in Goa according
to Mr. Kamaleshwar is to encourage implementation of strategies for
improvement in Health and Safety standards and to give recognition to the
industrial units /organizations, service sector units and individuals for
their outstanding contribution to improve safety
at work place. It is aimed to emphasize the duties, responsibilities and
concern, save the units from accidents and damage by taking preventive and
corrective measures and increase productivity. These awards are aimed at
Organizations/Companies/Individuals having strong concern and commitment
for health and safety and are willing to work hard to improve their own
performance.
Greentech Foundation was established to promote education, training,
research and dissemination of knowledge, advancing the scientific,
technical and practical aspects of waste management and climate change to
protect environment and safety at workplace, informed Mr. Sharan.
