buildings

Limited (HIL) held a panel discussion comprising noted architects of the
twin cities on 15th July to underline the need for sustainable Building
materials that have environmental and health merits.
At a panel discussion ‘Green Habitats: Selection of Green Materials ---
Strategy & Criterion’, Hyderabad Industries Limited Managing Director Mr
Abhaya Shankar said the use of ‘Green Building’ materials will help reduce
energy consumption, cut down natural resource depletion and pave way for
an eco-friendly living. Mr Abhay Shankar said the company’s unique
products such as Aerocon blocks and Panels which are certified by Indian
Green Building Council help in creating sustainable buildings. He further
stated that the Aerocon Blocks and Panels are made of fly ash , a recycled
waste from thermal plants, that are light weight and easy to handle.
Mr Abhaya Shanker, while quoting the companies chairman C K Birla , said
that at HIL we share the world community’s growing concern for the planet
and are committed to driving environmental progress by creating and
delivering value-for-money, eco-friendly green products. It is our goal to
become a global player in building products and infrastructure industry
with a commitment to provide environment friendly products and follow
green and safe practices.
Mr K A S Menon, Vice President( Marketing- Special Products) while
specking on the company’s green products, highlighted that they are
dimensionally accurate and have excellent thermal insulation that saves
costs on air-conditioning. Stating that the Aerocon Blocks are used in the
construction of walls of apartments, villas and commercial complexes, he
said these blocks substitute clay bricks and concrete blocks while the
Aerocon Panels which are light in weight are substitutes for wood and
gypsum for construction of partition walls.
At the panel discussion, the company expressed its desire to partner with
the Building Industry and Architects community pursuing the goal of
providing Green Building products and solutions to the customers.
Other speakers at the panel discussion include Ramesh Nair, managing
director Janes Lang LaSalle Maghraj, Nitin Killawala, architect, Pradeep
Kumar, Civil engineer & senior fellow & advisor CRSBS (TERI), P K Jha,
special secretary to Govt of AP (Municipal administration & Urban
Development). At the panel discussion, S N Chavala, a renowned architect,
was felicitated and honoured with life-time achievement award for his
contribution in the field of architecture.
