Hyderabad|India|July'2011:The first Hyderabad Basic
Knee Arthroscopy course was conducted here in city at the Krishna
Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), minister road, Secunderabad.
The course aimed to teach basic knee arthroscopy skills to young
orthopedic surgeons through video lectures, hands on training and live
surgery. The course faculty included eminent arthroscopy specialists DR
Anant Joshi from Mumbai, Dr Lenin from Chennai and local faculty from the
KIMS hospital. The course was attended by 40 orthopedic surgeons with keen
interest in arthroscopy.
Knee arthroscopy otherwise known as key hole surgery is performed quite
commonly for sports related injuries to the knee ligaments. Arthroscopy is
a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which an examination and
sometimes treatment of damage of the interior of a joint is performed
using an arthroscopy, a type of endoscope that is inserted into the joint
through a small incision. Arthroscopic surgery entails separate skills as
compared to other commonly performed orthopedic surgeries. It needs proper
training and gradual skill acquisition.
We exercise in order to keep fit and to avoid getting fat. Sports seem
like a fun way of burning extra calories to lose weight, but, sports
injuries are increasing many fold. The number of injuries keeps increasing
every year.
The course, which is firs of its kind helped many young orthopedic
surgeons acquire those special skills. The course was organised as part of
the Continuous Medical Education by the KIMS.
