Lions District 324C-2 to set up ten self sustained Vision Centers in
city for free service

Hyderabad|India|July'2010: The District 324 C2, local unit of
the International Association of Lions Clubs District to set up ten self
sustained Vision Centers in city in the coming year, informed Lion Surat
Singh Malhotra(Namdhari) addressing a Press Conference here in city at
Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar Academy in Gachibowli.
Speaking about his programmes for the year he added that the ten self
sustained Vision Centers will offer eye testing almost free. And these
will be set up and managed by individual clubs. We also want to build up
the data base of voluntary blood donors to encourage blood donation.
These Vision Centers are required where it is not possible to set up Eye
Hosptial, added Lion Dr. Ashok Mehta, Past International President of the
International Association of Lions Clubs. He is the second Indian to
become International President of this global service organisaiton.
Adding further Dr. Ashok Mehta stated that Lions International is granting
Rs 50,000/-, Government of India is funding Rs 50,000/- and Local Lions
Club is contributing Rs 50,000/- to set up each Vision Center.
Lion Surat Singh Malhotra, city’s well known event organiser was
recently(on July 2nd) installed as District Governor of Lions District
324C-2 at Sydney in Australia. He was addressing a press conference on the
eve of the 30th District Cabinet Installation. And unveiled his them
"Serve with Grace" for the coming year.
The 63 lions clubs in the District 324C-2 will take up tree plantation on
a big way. Each club in the District is asked to plant atleast 100
saplings this year totalling about 6000 plants. We will also offer
Scholarships to poor at the rate of Rs 1000/- per child. This benefit will
be extended to 500 children by the individuals members of the district
totaling to Rs five lakh in the coming year informed Lion Surat Singh.
Adding further he stated that plans are on the card to set up another big
Eye Hospital on the lines of Sadhuram in city. The more details of the
project are yet to be finalised. The focus this year will be on quality of
service activities. Unlike my predecessors, i will not push for membership
drive. Instead, we are going to have a cap on membership. Henceforth, lion
membership will be made available on invitation only, he added.
This year the District has initiated a concept called Roaring Lions to
give honour to those lions who have been striving hard by rendering yeoman
services for the several years. It will allow them offcourse on a nominal
fee to enjoy mega charity activities and entertainment programmes
throughout the year. And District is planning to have twelve mega events
like Kavi Sammelan, SP Bala Subrahmaniam Musical Night, Diwali Mela and
New Year and others in the city. Lion R. Sunil Kumar, Past District
Governor has been made as the Advisor of the Roaring Lions.
Followed by the press conference on the occasion of the SABRANG, 30th
District Cabinet Installation function, Artificial Limbs, Tricycles and
Sewing Machines worth rupees two lakh were distributed to the 27 deserving
poor people immediately after the press conference now.
Later in the evening, the 30th District Cabinet Installation called
SABRANG, a festival of all colours held. Where Lion officers were
installed by Lion Dr. Ashok Mehta. Inder Singh Namdhari, Member of
Parliament and former speaker of Jharkhand Assembly(two times) and the
first ever Member of Parliament from the fifty lakh plus Namdhari Sect of
Sikhs in the country graced the function and delivered key note address.
Addressing the gathering he said those who live for other are the real
people who lived their life. Trees, Cow, Rivers live for others. Serve
with grace. Seva mey majza hai. Politicians must be more service minded
said Inder Singh Namdhari.
People think clubs are for drink and merry making. Lions have to shed that
image. Be more service oriented he told Lions.
During the meeting a poster creating awareness about translocation of the
trees was released. The poster was brought out by Lion B., Mohan Rao, Dist
Chairman on Environment Protection and Awareness. Giving details, he said
god cant be everywhere. So god gave mother nature, flora and fauna. Tree
is the alpha and omega of all life on planet earth. We need to translocate
at 70 more trees in the city. And tranlocation of each tree requries Rs
50,000/-. We want to contribute in our small way to help translocate trees
in the city, informed Mohan Rao. We have done lot of work towards the
same, he said.
Lion Namdhari Surat Singh Malhotra joined Lionism in the year 1978 and he
is the first Namdhari Sikh to become a Lions Governor in the country. As a
District Governor he will have part of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy District as
well as Mahbubnagar, Raichur, Gulbarga and Bidar from Karnataka as his
jurisdiction. The theme of the lionistic year is "Serve with Grace". His
main thrust would be to focus on the service activities which make
difference to the lives of less previleged people of the society. He is a
member of Lions Club of Hyderabad Neo Elite
Lions District 324 C2 is the biggest of the four lion districts in the
city. About thousand lion members took part in the meeting.
