Minister K Rosaiah on Thursday expressed hope that
Andhra Pradesh would
make rapid strides in all fields in the New Year and continue to be a role
model for all other states in the country in welfare and development
sectors.
Wishing the people of the state
a happy, peaceful, healthy and
prosperous new year, the Chief Minister
said Andhra Pradesh was at the crucial juncture of
progress and development. He pointed out that in
the last five years, Andhra Pradesh emerged as the
second most favoured investment destination in the
country and
Hyderabad the fastest developing city.
“Let us keep that pace. In the global competitive
world, development and welfare are the most important parameters for
human development index.
And development takes places only in a peaceful environment. Let us all
work together to create such a peaceful and congenial environment for the
growth. Let us focus our attention on improving production and achieve
all-round development,” he said.
The Chief Minister made it clear that the government
would leave no stone unturned in continuing the pace of welfare and
development programmes taken up in the last five years. “All the projects
under Jalayagnam will be continued in the right earnest and there is no
need for any apprehensions. In spite of financial constraints, the
government is committed to complete all the projects. We are also making
all out efforts to secure as much Central assistance as possible for these
projects,” he said.
Mr Rosaiah pointed out that there are, in all, 88
irrigation projects taken up under Jalayagnam, of which 44 are major
projects, 30 medium projects, four flood banks and eight modernization
projects. Of them, 12 projects have already been completed and 19 more
projects are nearing completion. So far, an additional ayacut of 25 lakh
acres has been created. He directed that the irrigation officials to
complete the projects which are in the final stages and also put projects
which have completed major portion of the work, on the fast track.
Administrative sanction has already been given to all the above projects
costing Rs 1,79,679 crore, he said.
The Chief Minister also wanted the power utilities to
ensure quality power supply to all categories—domestic, agriculture and
industry. He wanted the consumer grievances cell also to be strengthened.
He directed that the
Civil Supplies Department, Vigilance & Enforcement wing, A P
Civil Supplies Corporation, Agriculture and Marketing Department
keep the prices of essential commodities under control. He said there were
reports that some of the erring traders were taking undue advantage of the
prevailing situation in the State and hiking the prices of essential
commodities. He asked the officials concerned to take such unscrupulous
elements to task. “Protecting the interest of the poor and common man will
be top priority of the Govt.
Mr Rosaiah reiterated that his government would also
focus on all welfare schemes like Housing, Rs.2 a kilo rice, scholarships
etc. The “Abhayahastham” scheme would be implemented with utmost
commitment, in spite of heavy financial commitments. Similarly, all
beneficial schemes for the self-help groups and farmers like “pavala vaddi”
would be continued and
agricultural production would be stepped up. “We will make all
efforts towards all-round prosperity of the State and that of the people,”
he assured.
On the eve of the New Year day, the Chief Minister Sri
K.Rosaiah said: “May each day of the coming year be vibrant and peaceful.
Let us leave behind what we don’t need to carry like grudges, sadness,
pain, fear and regrets. Let us hope for a joyful new year. My best wishes
are with you”.
