Top contenders
brimming with confidence on Day 1 at the TATA
PHOTON MONSOON REGATTA - 2011 being organized by
The Yacht Club of
Hyderabad at Hussain Sagar Lake!

Hyderabad|India|July'2011:
Greeted with a Telangna bandh on one hand and
superb sailing weather on the other all the top
contenders expressed top confidence at the opening
racing day at the Tata Photon Monsoon Regatta
which started on 5th July.
At the athletes meet favourites R. Mahesh, Nitin
Mongia, Aashim Mongia and Ayaz Sheikh were
brimming with confidence along with their new
crews.
Nitin Mongia was specifically happy to be back in
his favorite hunting grounds at Hussain Sagar and
expressed his happiness that the water looked much
cleaner and that there were so many more entries
in all the fleets. He specifically commented on
the increased depth of talent that Match Racing
has produced, giving the top seeds a tighter fight
to the finish.
Mahesh R walked in to the conference with his
characteristic Viv Richards swagger and expressed
no doubt about his crews capability to win hands
down. Heading for the world Milatary games winning
the Monsoon Regatta will only give them that edge
at the Games.
Aashim Mongia taking to the waters after a long
gap and a break from West Coast Marine was happy
to be a sponsor to the sport and winning will only
double the pleasure.
Mr.Ganesh Parmeshwaran , Executive Director of
Liquid Hub a solidarity partner was specifically
happy to hear a lot of the participants express
their happiness that the waters of Hussain Sagar
feel a lot cleaner which if their primary reason
to partner in the first place.
The younger Mongia Nitin specifically has revenge
on his mind after having lost to Mahesh in a
tightly contested 5 setter in 2010 while having
claimed the title in 2009.
This is the first time Nitin is sailing with two
girls as crew . Local Alekhya Sudam and Hema Mehta
from Mumbai were put to the test crewing alongside
trimmer Balraj Yadav and did a great job winning
all their races in the round robin during the
first day .
Mahesh R literally sailed thru the first few
flights smiling with ease leaving no space for
mistakes.
The first day saw a fleet of little Optimists
practicing in the water awaiting their young
friends from across India to soon joining them in
combat on the water. The Organizers are eagerly
awaiting the final entry count which hopes to set
a record of sorts.
