India Announce Strategic Agreement
Hyderabad|India|August'2009: SatNav Technologies, pioneers in GPS
Navigation in India, has announced a strategic tie-up to use Survey of
India (SOI) maps and build valueadded products for consumers. SOI is
India’s principal mapping agency.The agreement allows SatNav Technologies
to release the SOI-approved digital mapsand custom map content within the
public domain for commercial use in a rangeof navigation and
location-based solutions (LBS) in the mobile and personalnavigation
system.
In another announcement, SatNav Technologies also informed that theyare
releasing an enhanced map data base, being created since the year 2000,
tonow cover 404 cities and 16 lakh Points of Interest (POIs). The enhanced
mapswould have enhanced features like more POI content, accuracy, road
networkvalidation, gap in median and turn restrictions. The maps
areconstantly enhanced and on the anvil are plans to grow this to 500
cities, 30lakh destinations, and ultimately the 6 lakh villages across the
country.
SatNavwitnessed a multi-fold growth last year. With the increase in the
POIs andnumber of cities covered across India, SatNav aims to further ramp
up itsgrowth in this fiscal. The current partnership with SOI will help
SatNavTechnologies take this map making initiative to an entirely new
plane and alsocomply with the regulations of the Government of India and
the provisions ofthe National Mapping Policy while offering much improved
solutions to itsconsumers.
