Fifty Indian Scholars of American Studies Gather in Hyderabad

Hyderabad|India|March'2010: Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs, U.S. Embassy New Delhi, Michael Pelletier and Osmania University Vice Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao inaugurated a two-day national conference, “American Studies in the 21st Century,” at Osmania University Center for International Programs (OUCIP), March 29, 2010.

Fifty Indian scholars of American studies came from throughout the country to participate in the workshop/conference. Organized by the U.S. Embassy New Delhi, with support from the Consulate General Hyderabad, the gathering aims to promote an interest in American studies and to showcase it as a multidisciplinary subject. Workshop sessions will focus on American Studies as a discipline and as a legitimate academic subject and how it is organized and supported around the world.

Professor Donald Pease, Director of the Futures of American Studies Institute, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, USA and Professor Martin Halliwell, Head of the School of English and Chair of American Studies, University of Leicester, U.K will deliver the keynote addresses at the inaugural session.as well. His void cannot be filled for a long time to come.
