Hyderabad|India| Shreya Life Sciences,
India has announced the
launch of world’s first recombinant DNA human insulin buccal spray under the
brand name of
Oral-Recosulin.
Ultra Rapid Prandial Glucose Regulator is a
buccal insulin spray for the treatment of Type I
and Type II diabetes that is based on the
technology developed by the company’s US
collaborator Generex Biotechnology. Through its
breakthrough "RapidMist" technology in insulin
delivery, Oral Recosulin provides freedom from
limitations of conventional insulin therapy /
devices. The new technology delivers insulin
through Buccal
Mucosa directly to the Vascular System.
It is observed that needle phobia is a primary reason, which at times
prevents the patient from taking insulin therapy although required. Oral-Recosulin
is an alternative available for those diabetics who have an acute
injection phobia. "We feel that Oral-Recosulin is a simple solution for a
worldwide problem, as diabetics would prefer buccal delivery of the drug
to injections because it offers superior pharmacodynamic profile besides
being pain free, said Mr. Ram Shelat, Director, Domestic Business, Shreya
Life Sciences
Pvt Ltd.
A study by the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated the number of
diabetic individuals in
India to rise from19.4 mn in 1995 to 57.2 mn by the year 2025
making India home to the largest diabetic population in the world.
The Indian Diabetic Market is estimated to be around 1722.7 Cr with a
growth rate of 20.6% as per the ORG IMS. Human Insulin market is Rs 517.9
Cr with a growth rate of 23.9% while the oral anti diabetic market is
Rs.1204.7 Cr & is growing at the rate of 19.2%.
WHO’s Burden of Disease report states that
diabetes is going to grow by 40% in
developed countries,
but by 170% in
developing countries. A study by
IDF has shown that by
2030, the number of rural
people suffering from diabetes will equal those in urban areas.
Commenting on the launch Mr.
Sujit Kumar Singh,
Chairman and Managing Director, Shreya Life Sciences Pvt. Ltd, said that
