Four Day international conference on the State in South Asia

Hyderabad|India|October'2010: The Department of History, University of Hyderabad, is organizing a four-day international conference on the State in Southasia from October 18, 2010.

Speaking at the inaugural session, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Seyed E. Hasnain, said that conferences and symposia such as these afford students to learn something more than what is taught in classrooms, especially from those who have excelled in their respective fields.

The conference honoured all participants and the Head of the Department, Prof. R. L. Hangloo, presented Prof. Dietmar Rothermund from Germany – who is delivering the keynote address – with a silver plaque. Prof. Javeed Alam, Chairman of the Indian Council for Social Science Research, New Delhi, inaugurated the conference. Delegates include Padmashri and Professor Shri Hermann Kulke (Germany), Prof. B. P. Sahu (New Delhi), Prof. S. Victor Babu (Lucknow), Prof. Anuradha Chanda (Kolkata), and others from Tellichetry, Allahabad, Pune, and Hyderabad.

Asked why a conference on the state, the co-ordinator of the conference, Prof. Rila Mukherjee, said that the state permeates our lives and it is too important a factor to be ignored. Hence, this conference.
