Thrilling motor sports event “TSD Rally” at Novotel Hyderabad Airport on Sunday

Hyderabad|India|April'2009: GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL) in association with Novotel Hyderabad Airport will be hosting yet another motor sports event, TSD Rally (Time, Speed, Distance & Rally) on 26th April, 2009 (Sunday) at Novotel Hyderabad Airport, 3kms away from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The rally is organized by Andhra Pradesh Motor Sports Club (APMSC).

In the TSD Rally, the participants will be given a route in a Tulip format along with the speeds to be maintained. They will have to calculate the time. There will be undisclosed Time Controls with marshals, who will note the time of each competitor. The competitors will be awarded 1 penalty point for every minute late and 5 penalty points for every minute early. The winner will be the competitor with the least number of penalty points. There are different classes of Prize winners like Overall, Novice, All Ladies Teams, etc. The total route to be covered is approx 75 kms in about 2 hours and the maximum speed is 40 kmph.

The goal of the TSD Rally is to travel the correct route at the correct speeds, and arrive at unknown checkpoints in the middle of the route, precisely on time. The teams are scored on how closely to the correct time they arrive and penalties are given as per their time. This is done by simple mathematical calculation of time, speed and distance. Arriving too early at a checkpoint hurts the scores, as does arriving too late. The team with the least penalties would be the winner.

“The TSD Rally is not a race. This event is more of a Picnic Rally with no high speeds, and any car can participate as long as it is roadworthy. A team comprises of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 members. The participant should hold a valid driving license and the registration book along with a valid insurance is enough, and no special rally insurance cover is required. Each team has to follow the course, as well as maintain a given average speed, and hence these type of rallies will inculcate safe driving habits among the people,” said Mr. A. Viswanath, Chief Commercial Officer, GHIAL.
