has awarded the prestigious Life Time Achievement Award to Prof.Muzaffer
Ali Shahmiri, Department of Urdu, University of Hyderabad for the year
2008 in recognition of his services to promote Urdu Language. The Academy
gives this Award to selected few in recognition of their contributionS to
the field of Urdu poetry, research, journalism and Promotion of Urdu
language every year. All these Awards are installed in different names of
great poets and writers of Urdu. The Award given to Prof. Muzaffer
Shahmiri is installed in the name of Srinivas Lahoti , a renowned Urdu
scholar , critic and who, in the capacity of the secretary of Anjuman e
Taraqqi e Urdu Hind, New Delhi, Hyderabad wing, strived hard to promote
Urdu Language throughout his life. The Award was presented by Dr.YS
Rajsekhar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at a special function
organized in Ravindra Bharati, Hyderabad. The award consists of a cash
award of Rs.25,000/ and a certificate of Merit.
Prof.Muzaffer Shahmiri, apart from his 32 years of Urdu teaching, has
authored 4 books and edited 3 books. He has published many research
articles in leading journals of India and has attended more than fifty
National, International Seminars including a world conference at Tehran,
Iran in 2004. Prof.Muzaffer also attended an International seminar at
Nehru House, London and presented a paper. A new book consisting of his
several poems by the title “ Pyaas” wasreleased in London by Prof. David
Mathews. He has scripted an educational programme namely “ Aao Urdu
Seekhein” to teach Urdu and he himself presented it on ETv Urdu.
