New Building inaugurated at Vasavi
Engineering College
Hyderabad|India|April'2010: “Government of A.P. is spending a lot
of funds towards education for the benefit of the students and we are
looking to the private institutions also to come in a big way to provide
quality education”, said the Chief Minister Dr.K.Rosaiah. “We are
supporting post-matric education by extending scholarships even to
Economically Backward Classes also on par with the SCs, STs, Minorities
and B.Cs”, he said.
The Chief Minister was addressing the students and staff of Vasavi
Engineering College after inaugurating its buildings at Gandipet.
“I am proud to say that Vasavi Engineering College has attained a special
status in the State. Out of 650 Engineering Colleges in the State, this is
one of the first three colleges in maintaining good standards right from
the beginning. To sustain and continue this is more important”, the Chief
Minister said. Stating that the Managing Committee of Vasavi Academy of
Education and its professors are a dedicated lot, the Chief Minister also
praised the students for their devotion to their studies and cooperation
in earning a good name for the college.
The Chief Minister said that there are 650 Engineering colleges in the
State and some more applications are pending which the Government is
examining. “When we were students, very few people used to study the
engineering course. We were hesitant in our days when we were young to go
out of our village for our studies. Today, it is not the attitude of the
students or their parents. Parents are prepared to send their students to
far away places also expecting good education. Distance is no bar now”,
the Chief Minister said. “Compared to earlier days, the families today are
spending a lot for educating their children. I feel it is a very desirable
change. Every poor family is also now thinking of educating their
children. Whether it is a boy or a girl, it makes no difference for them.
This is a remarkable change all over the country”, the Chief Minister
said. Stating that as part of the national movement of attaining total
literacy steps are being taken in the state. And that Education should not
be treated as a field to make profits, the Chief Minister lauded Vasavi
Academy in this regard.
Stating that he was proud to be associated with the Vasavi Academy right
from 1981, the Chief Minister wished that the Academy should strive hard
to introduce new courses. “When I looked into the results, I am quite
amazed. I am very happy that the percentage of results in this college
when compared to others in the State is quite satisfying” the Chief
Minister said and wanted them to continue this trend.
The Chief Miniter recalled the days of 1981, when Mr.T.Anjaiah was the
Chief Miniter, and that he was the Minister in his Cabinet for Transport
and Housing when Late Sri Pendekanti Venkata Subbaiah on the advice of
some of his friends like Mr. KK Gupta, Mr.Krishnamurthy, Mr.Sai and others
one day proposed for starting the Vasavi Engineering College and how the
then Minister for Technical Education Mr.Hayagreevachary as well as the
Chief Minister late Sri T.Anjaiah were cleared the proposal in no time.
