aerial dance performance
Hyderabad|India|November'2010:
The U.S. Consulate General in cooperation with
the Department of Tourism, Government of Andhra Pradesh is presenting the
American dance company Project Bandaloop performing aerial dance from the
walls of Golconda Fort.
One of the world’s top aerial and vertical dance companies, Project
Bandaloop (www.projectbandaloop.org)
will perform at the historic Golconda Fort in the city on Sunday, November
21, 2010 at 2.30 p.m.
Under the direction of Amelia Rudolph, the choreography draws on aerial,
vertical and horizontal movement to craft site-specific dances. The work
explores the relationship between movement and gravity and stimulates
viewers’ awareness of their natural and built environments. The 11-member
team consists of eight dancers.
The company has performed in 12 countries across five continents. Their
highest ‘dance floor’ was 2400 feet above ground at Yosemite, California.
Their performance at Golconda Fort will be their 13th set of performances
using rock sites in nature. Project Bandaloop’s venues include theaters,
buildings and skyscrapers, cliffs, towers, bridges, billboards and other
vertical surfaces. Previous venues have included architectural landmarks -
The New York Stock Exchange; Seattle Space Needle; Brazil IBM
Headquarters, St. Georgio Castle, Mantova, Italy; National Museum,
Singapore; Library designed by Moshe Saphdie, Salt Lake City, UT; New San
Francisco Public Library, San Francisco, CA; and the San Francisco
International Airport Terminal.
The entry for the performance is free but citizens will have to pay Rs. 5
as the gate charge to enter Golconda Fort.
The performance in Hyderabad honors the work of Society to Save the Rocks
to preserve the Deccan Plateau’s unique geological features.
The team will also conduct a workshop for students at the Shiamak Davar
Dance School.
