World Music Day Comes to Hyderabad
Hyderabad|India|June'2010: Hyderabad’s international cultural
centers are joining hands to bring world music to twin cities of Hyderabad
and Secunderabad on World Music Day, Saturday, June 19, 2010.
Hyderabad’s Alliance Française, Goethe-Zentrum and U.S. Consulate General,
with support from Hyderabad Western Music Forum, Seagrams and Taj Deccan,
present panoply of music genres from 5:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at the Taj
Deccan. Entrance is on a first come, first served basis and is free.
Concerts will begin in the Arena and as the tempo heats up will move to
Syn Asian Restaurant.
Following is Hyderabad’s World Music Day lineup:
5:00 p.m. Veena recital by Kalyani Lakshminarayana
5:30 p.m. Western Classical music
(Jonathan Hewitt on trumpet and Iryna Tsarenko on the piano)
6:00p.m. St. Francis College Choir
7:00 p.m. Jazz for Two
(Holger Jetter on electric violin and Mishko M’Ba on piano)
8:00 p.m. French Salsa Jazz band “Sam Smala”
Samuel Strouk on guitar, Quentin Baine on drums, Guillaume Marin on bass,
Mathias Levy on violin and guitar and singer Serena Fisseau)
9:30 p.m. Hyderabad rock band: Native Tongue
The French Minister of Culture initiated la fete de la musique in 1982,
held on Midsummer’s Night. La fete de la musique soon spread beyond France
around the world. With support from Hyderabad’s three cultural missions
(France, Germany and the United States) music lovers in Andhra Pradesh can
celebrate the diversity of musical styles on World Music Day 2010.
