Hyderabad|India|March'2010: The Yagalla Foundation Awards for
literature, arts and service were given away at a glittering function at
Chiraan Fort Club, Hyderabad in a function held till late night on
Saturday. Dharmana Prasada Rao, Minister for Revenue, Relief,
Rehabilitation & ULC presented awards to the three distinguished
individuals.
The Yagalla Foundation established by Agriculturist Y. Ramakrishna and his
wife renowned Gyneacologist Dr. Padma in the year 2000 has been honouring
distinguished individuals in Fine Arts, Literature and Service. The
Awardees were given away Rs 20,000/-(Twenty thousand only) cash, shawl and
momento.
On behalf of Sri Tripura (R.V.T. Rao), Short Story Writer and Author his
daughter Prof. Vindhya has received the award. Producer, Artist, Writer
Sri Ravi Kondala Rao was awarded Yagalla Suseela Kala Puraskaram, while
Sri Velaga Venkatappayya, a well known individual who worked hard for
library movement in the state. He is the father of Library Science in A.P.
He is the first Principal for the School of Library Science in Andhra
Pradesh.
This Annual Awards are being given away for the past ten years. So far
Yagalla Foundation felicitated 25 distinguished individuals in the last
ten years.
Some of the earlier receipients include living legen, artisit, film maker,
producer and director Bapu Ramana; world renowned linguist Prof Chekuri
Rama Rao, Space Scientist Padma Sri Dr. Kota Harinarayana, poet of great
repute Vengunta Mohana Prasad, Balanthrapu Rajani Kanth RaoMullapudi
Venkata Ramana etc.
Some social organisations in the cause of service such as Kadha Nilayam,
an exclusive library for Telugu Short Stories also bagged the award
earlier. It has approximated 1000 rare short stories books.
Speaking on the occasion Dharmana Prasada Rao said awards are rewards for
the excellent work done by the individuals and institutions.
