Postal Dept. to issue commemorative
stamp on YSR
Hyderabad|India|March'2010: The Postal Department, Government of
India will issue a commemorative postage stamp on the former Chief
Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on 2nd September,
2010, the 1st death anniversary of Dr. YSR. An official communication to
this effect was received by the Chief Minister Dr K Rosaiah from the
Government of India.
Union Minister for Law and Justice, Dr. Veerappa Moily wrote to the Chief
Minister that he has taken up the matter regarding the issuance of a
commemorative postage stamp on "Dr. Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy". Union Minister
for Communications & Information Technology has informed that the
Government of India has approved the proposal for issuance of the
commemorative stamp on Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on 2nd September, 2010,
on Dr. YSR's 1st death anniversary.
The Chief Minister thanked the Union Ministers A Raja and Veerappa Moily
and said it is a befitting honour to a great leader and most popular Chief
Minister of the country. The Chief Minister said Dr. YSR was the beloved
leader of the people and was the most popular politician and Chief
Minister of the country. Many of Dr YSR's welfare schemes like free power
for farmers, Rs.2-a-kg rice scheme for 80 per cent of the State's
population, the Aarogyasri healthcare insurance scheme for over 2 crore
families in the State, social security pension scheme on saturation
concept, 'Abhayahastham' pension scheme for all the SHG women etc. were
unique and unparallel. Today many States and countries are trying to
replicate some of these schemes.
The Chief Minister thanked the postal department for honouring the former
Chief Minister who died while he was on a mission called "Rachabanda" to
meet the people. He really deserves more such honours. Dr Rajasekhara
Reddy's death was an irreparable loss not only to the State, but to the
nation as well. His void cannot be filled for a long time to come.
