The first phase of Charminar pedestrian plan ,Heritage walk and Lad Bazaar area improvement, presently under progress ,would be completed in 18 months at an estimated cost of Rs.37 crore.
Vastu Shilpa Consultants is executing the projects. As many as eight different Heritage walks are being
planned. The first was undertaken on the World Tourism Day.
Plans have been finalized for improving the precincts along the Heritage walks by special paying, lighting,
installation of various signage's for direction and description of monuments.
The MCH has begun road widening programme for this purpose at an estimated cost of Rs.67 crore.
Similarly, Lad Bazaar will be pedestrianised and beautified by widening the road. The
exercise aims at preserving the character of the street.
Provision of parking lots in close proximity is proposed. Whole street shall be paved with granite cobbles with water fountains, kiosks and canopies for shade.
The Ahmedabad based Vastu Shilpa Consultants has been assigned to prepare feasibility reports and grounded and advised the government on ways to execute its proposed Charminar
pedestrianisation project.
The VSC has completed first phase of its assignment when the first of the eight heritage walks began on September 27 from the old office of MCH in Darus
shifa. The Tourism Department is in the process of training guides for all the walks that would follow one by one.
The nearly 700 meters stretch between Lad Bazaar and Mahboob Chowk would be paved with
cobblestone. There would be no vehicular traffic in Lad Bazaar except for the residence or during lean hours of the night or early morning.
