Shanghai Municipal Committees support for IT Promotion
|
The Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu sought cooperation from Shanghai Municipal Committee to work together in the IT sector. India has immense potential in IT and Software development, while China is strong in hardware and industry and if the two economies work in tandem, both the economies can mutually benefit.
Speaking at State banquet hosted in his honour by Mr. Huang Ju, Member of Politburo of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Committee, Mr. Naidu invited Mr. Ju to visit India and Hyderabad. The Chief Minister said he has learnt a lot from his visit to Shanghai and was amazed to see the economic prosperity. The economic development achieved by Shanghai in the last 10 years was
mind boggling, he said.
Shanghai is the largest financial centre of China and contributes 10 per cent of the total trade. It's annual GDP growth is 11% since the last 10 years. Shanghai has transformed from an industrial city to a comprehensive city with special zones for economic development, Mr. Ju added.
Nearly 15% of industrial growth and 50% of the tertiary industry growth comes from Shanghai. The Municipal Committee has built over 2000 huge buildings over the last 10 years in an area of 1300 sq.
kms. Shanghai has a population of 13 million, which is 1% of the China's total population. It has also the distinction of being the highest per capita income in China at $4000 Mr. Ju pointed out.
Mr. Ju complemented the Chief Minister for his efforts to popularise the use of Internet and information technology. He agreed to consider the proposal of visiting India and Hyderabad on Naidu's invitation to explore investment opportunities in the IT sector. The two leaders had dinner along with the Indian Ambassador, Mr. Shivshankar
Menon, two Ministers from Andhra Pradesh Mr. Y. Ramakrishnudu and Mr. K. Vidyadhara Rao and Mr. Luo
Shiqian, Member of Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC and Mr. Li
Xuahai, Vice Director of Foreign Affairs office, Shanghai Municipal People's Government.
