A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Malaysian firm M/s Satcom Holdings Ltd, and the A.P. Technology services
(APTS) here for creating a joint venture company to establish Hyderabad as a regional hub for global internet traffic.
The proposal of JVC, whose detailed project report will be available in six to eight weeks, is to lay an optical
fiber submarine
link of terabyte capacity between Hyderabad-Vizag and Singapore/Kula
Lampur for the development and operation of a high bandwidth
transmission infrastructure for International data, voice, video and
internet communication traffic. Its cost is estimated at 300 million
US dollars (about Rs.1300 crores) and the timeframe for completion
18-24 months.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr. Chandrababu Naidu by the CEO of Satcom Holdings Ltd., Mr. Ralph Marshal, and the
Managing Director of APTS, Mr. Ajay Sawhney. The present MoU is different as it will serve the bandwidth
requirements of IT companies and internet service providers (ISPs) on commercial
lines.
It was emphasized that once Hyderabad was developed into a regional hub, internet traffic would no longer have to be
routed via the United States.
