Hyderabad: Plastro Plasson Industries, a
joint venture between Finolex Industries Limited
and Israel-based Plastro Plasson, has been chosen
to be a part of the Andhra Pradesh Micro
Irrigation Project (APMIP), the world’s largest
drip irrigation project. APMIP was inaugurated by
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu
at a function held in Ravirayal village, about 30
km from Hyderabad recently.
APMIP would be implemented across 22 districts
covering 2.5 lakh hectares of land each year in
its first phase. The project will have an outlay
of Rs.1200 crore. Over a five-year period, the
total targeted area under drip irrigation in
Andhra Pradesh is a mammoth 10 lakh hectares.
Says Plastro Plasson Director Mr. Satish Ghatpande
"We are really excited to be associated with this
unique project that will change the landscape of
Andhra Pradesh. We share the Chief Minister’s
vision and are fully committed to it. We are
geared up with our production facilities to cater
to the huge demand that would emanate from this
project. We wish this pilot project, which is the
first of its kind in the world, a grand success."
The APMIP is aimed at improving crop productivity
using modern drip and sprinkler technologies and
it would be implemented in 901 mandals, a majority
of them affected by drought. Farmers are being
provided subsidy to the extent of 50 per cent of
the total cost.
The drought-prone Telengana and Rayalaseema
regions in Andhra Pradesh that will be brought
under drip irrigation every year will spur huge
demand for PVC pipe manufacturers. Finolex
Industries, the manufacturer of premium quality
PVC pipes is one of the preferred irrigation
equipment manufacturers.
