Hyderabad, August'04: Native Tongue and Wreckage are
the two Rock Bands that emerged as Winner and Runner-Up respectively at just
concluded Hyderabad Finals of Pepsi Hero Honda Campus Rock Idols Contest held at
Durgam Cheruvu. Native Tongue Band comprised of Jobbin George, Guitarist, Isaac
Alexander Drummer and Samson Christopher Bassist. Wreckage Band comprised of six
bandmates who include Praneeth - Vocals; Paul and Joel - Lead Guitar artists;
Anoop Peter Bassist and Victor Drummer.
Six bands were shortlisted in the closely fought contest where over 23 bands
from twin cities have participated. These bands include Touch, Driatribe, Gnarl,
Wreckage, Legacy, Native Tongue.
The two winning bands will go to the South Indian Regional Finals to be held in
Bangalore on August 19th where they will compete with four other winning bands
from Chennai and Bangalore. The regional final two bands will go for national
finals to be held on September 12th in Mumbai, where they will compete with six
other teams coming from three other regions such North, East and West. The final
winners of the Pepsi Hero Honda Campus Rock Idols will get a once in a life time
opportunity to perform alongside International Rock Icons, of the likes of Bryan
Adams, Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Duran Duran and Sting, amongst others who
will perform in India. In addition to the privilege of playing alongside music
legends, cash prizes will also be awarded to the winners apart from multimedia
equipment for the college management of the winning bands.
This is the first ever-national college rock competition ever held on such a
large scale all over India in 11 centres. These events are being captured and
edited for a television special series by MTV.
Campus Rock Idols is an annual independent competition for music groups at the
campus level, offers a definitive college experience to the students as far as
live music, entertainment and a healthy inter-college rivalry.
The organisers, DNA Networks besides providing visitors an opportunity to see
the city’s best rock bands perform live, the students also got an opportunity to
spend time at the unique and exclusive "Campus Adda", a market square that
offered multitude of entertainment experiences. The Adda was a huge structure
spanning over 90 feet comprising of various interactive stalls that offered
gaming zones, test rides on special bikes other unique experiences.
Galeej Gurus, a Bangalore based band performed an opening act as an inspiration
to the performing bands at the Contest. From the day’s of their inception as a
college band four and half years ago, the Galeej Gurus have also performed the
opening act for Bryan Adams at his first performance in the India. They has also
performed the opening act for Euphoria and a show with Lucky Ali. The band
members include Nathan-drummer/vocalist, Mathew-Bassist/Vocalist, Ananth Menon-Guitarist/Vocalist
and Snehal Pinto on the keyboards.
