Hyderabad: The Union Government is planning a
regulatory structure to monitor content on television, according to the
Information and Broadcasting Minister,Mr. S. Jaipal Reddy. Participating in
Zingaro-Vasavi T.V. Awards function here at Mountain Heights on Saturday till
late night Mr. Reddy observed that T.V in India is continues to enjoy popularity
on par or even more than films. The is flooded with number of T.V. channels
offering all kinds of content. There could be more channels in near future. But,
what is actually important is not the medium, but, the content, which he termed
it as king.
Sadly, some channels have been airing objectionable content much to the
discomfort of the family viewer, particularly music channels. However, such
criticism was not being made about Telugu channels, he added quickly. Hence,
Ministry is contemplating to appoint an independent regulatory body. That body
would be free from any political interference and will have total independence,
informed the Minister.
The Minister presented the Lifetime Achievement award to veteran television
personality Mr. Devdas Kanakala.
Inaugurating the Awards function earlier Mrs. N. Rajyalakshmi, The School
Education Minister said there was no dearth of creative talent for Telugu
Channels. And urged TV industry to reduce violence in their serials so that
families will enjoy clean entertainment. She too observed that TV Industry is on
par with the film world in terms of viewership and the time spent in by the
viewers.
Vasavi TV Awards for the year 2004 is the first of its kind awards in Telugu TV
industry, were selected on the basis of public opinion sought through newspaper
readers. The Awards are being presented for the past five years.
ETV’s Bhagavatham, Gemini’s Chakravakam, Maa TV’s Evari Gola Varide and D.D’s
Siri has been adjudged as the best Best Serials. Maa’s Brain of Andhra as Best
Feature, TV-9’s "9pm with Ravi Prakash as Best News Feature. In total the awards
were presented in 23 categories.
The Awards function was graced by Mr. Malreddy Rangareddy, MLA; Mr. Gireesh
Sanghi, Member of Parliament, Film Star Narayan Rao, IPS officer Mr. Anand;
Films stars Raja of Anand fame; Mr. Udai Kiran etc and others.
The Awards Function was coordinated by Neeharika Entertainments Pvt. Ltd and was
sponsored by Zingaro.
Vasavi Club Hyderabad is a city based 42 years old social service organisation
comprised of 1600 members belonging to Vyshya community in twin cities of
Hyderabad and Secunderabad informed Mr. Gnanchander, President of the club. It
is one of the very few organisation in our city rendering yeo man service for
the last four decades.
