Hyderabad is now a Metro

*Hyderabad is now the 2nd Largest city in the country after Bengaluru*

 

Hyderabad,August'2008: Hyderabad is now a Metro with the launch of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

With a vision to make Hyderabad a model city in the country, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy recently launched the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).


The jurisdiction of the new body spreads around 7,000 sq km encompassing a populace of 76 lakh and would be about twice the size of Goa.

Hyderabad having around 7000 sq km will now be on par with major metros in the country.Bangalore Metro has an areas of 8000 sq kms, Mumbai Metro (4272 sq km)Delhi (1,483 sq km),Kolkata (1,425 sq kms).

HMDA which will replace Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) which was carved out as an urban authority 32 years ago and gradually expanded to become a metropolitan development body.With the change in mandate, the new authority would not only have the role of developing master plan with related infrastructure, including road networks but also coordinating with other public agencies.

Its new jurisdictions include National Highway 7-Toopran, NH-7 Shadnagar and other roads. The HMDA coves 54 mandals of five neighbouring districts including Hyderabad, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Mahaboobnagar and Nalgonda.
