Hyderabad, September, 2003:  Lions District 324 C-3 inaugurated "All Women Lions Club". The Lions Club of Secunderabd Shakthi is the first of such club here in city. It is the first such ‘Women Only’ lions club in the Lions District 324 C-3 which has jurisdiction in Secunderabad city. Infact it is Secunderabad’s first total ladies lions club.

Disclosing this lion D.Ramchandram informed that the Club was formally inaugurated in a special inaugural function organised here at Lions Bhavan in Secunderabad on Sunday night by District Governor Lion Manohar Raju.

Comprised of twenty nine women members from different walks of life in twin cities, the new club is headed by Mrs. Shailaja Nair, a well known social worker and a professional compere of good standing in twin cities as President. A Post Graduate in Bio-Chemistry, she is associated as Director of Bio-Pharma Marinex Ltd. Mrs. Chandrakala Mohan, a home maker was sworn in as the first Secretary of the all women club.

Addressing immediately after she was installed formally, Mrs. Nair said her focus would to work on Thalassemia patients (The thalassemia diseases are a group of inherited conditions characterized by a reduced production of usual (or ‘normal’) hemoglobin), Family Planning and Programmes for school children.

The installation of first only women lions club was graced by all the who’s who lions in twin cities. The extension of all women club is in continuation of the plan of action of Lion Manohar Raju for the lionistic year 2003-2004. Lion Raju immediately after his election as District Governor has promised that he would like to rope in more women into lions fold. He promised that he would extend at least ten such ‘women only’ lions clubs in the next one year. It is for the first time in the history of lions clubs, women are roped into its fold in large numbers in order to add boost to the organisation.
