''The only Telugu Cinematographer
to win a National Award'' Hyderabad,2011:
Jayakrishna Gummadi did his Bachelors in Fine Arts from JNTU
specialising in Photography. Then onwards after a brief stint as an
assistant to the noted Cinematographer, Mr.Sameer Reddy ("Hum Tum Pe
Marte Hai", "Jaanwar"), he went on to Pune Film Institute (FTII) to
graduate in Motion Picture Photography.As a student at FTII his dialogue
film won Kodak Film school competition at the national level for his
cinematography. His diploma film 'vadhakramam' won the critics jury
award at the Rio de Janeiro international film festival.
Immediately after graduating out of FTII,
he came back to Hyderabad to take up the assignment as cinematographer
for the Telugu film "Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishnamurthy" followed by
a Malayalam film starring Jayaram. Then the big moment came with "Ram"
and people started making note of his commendable work. |

In 2007 with feature film
"Okkadunnadu" JK made
a mark in the Telugu film industry. His realistic yet
technically brilliant cinematography captured the attention of all.
His work received rave reviews all over. Even though he has
been flooded with offers, JK doesnt seem to be in a hurry as he wants to
take up only challenging assignments. He has set his focus on doing
brilliant work to quench his cinematic thirst.
In 2008 he has to his credit 'Idhi Sangathi' (Telugu) starring Tabu and
Abbas which has been JK's 5th film & this film was noted for being shot
on HD (High definition/wiper camera).JK has also been associated with couple of short films. Prominent
among them are "22 Minutes"(Directed by renowned music director, R.P Patnaik) & "I am famous" (Directed by R.Hanumantha Rao) which
was the opening film in the 2007 Hyderabad International Film
Festival.His 3rd short film "when this man dies" (22 mins) was shot in 2008.
Cinematographer Jayakrishna Gummadi had won the national award for the
best cinematography for his short film "When This Man Dies" in the non
feature film section in 2010. |
With the arrival of JK, the film industry has been blessed with a
gem of a cinematographer who is sure to capture the imagination of
the audience.
