to become India's best lit city |
Hyderabad will become the best lit city in the country following the Government decision to permit installation of
modern lighting of roads which are 60 feet wide. Of the 60 roads were
lighting is to be put up at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore,10 have already been identified.
The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) will soon dismantle the highmast lights that have been put up an important road junctions in the twin
cities and will be commencing the project by the end of this month.
The Government had recently issued three G.O.s permitting installation of
modern lighting. Eighty per cent of the work would be ensured to a Singapore firm which has quoted the lowest bid. Two Indian firms- Philips and Bajaj- would share the balance.
The first phase will cover a road length of Rs. 20.48 km and cost about Rs 2.22
crore. The remaining work covering 50 roads will be completed by March next .
The following ten roads will have modern lighting in the first phase:
Nagarjuna junction to Jubliee Hills Check post(3.70 km),Punjagutta police station to Nirankari junction(2.5
km),Punjagutta police station to Erragada flyover (2.8 km,),
Tarapore Road,Taj krishna to RTA Office junction(1.1 km,),Ravindra Bharati to Jubliee Hall(0.3
km),Lakdikapul to Mint compound via Ravindra Bharati(0.9 km), Nanal nagar junction to Langar Houz(2.2
km), IS Sadan junction to Chandrayangutta Cross Roads(4.80 km), Ayodhya Hotel to Lakdikapul via Nirankari Bhavan(1.1
km), and
Lakdikapul to Telugutalli statue(1.08 km).
In the next phase, modern
lighting will be installed on 43 roads and the work will be installed on
43 roads and the work will be completed by March at an estimated cost of
Rs 20 crore.
These lights would have electronic timer switches for automatic on and off facility.
