Mr.K.N.T.
Sastry who had earlier written the screenplay and directed "Surabhi"
won The Best Anthropological/Ethnographic film Award at the
47th National Film Festival. Mr.K.N.T.Sastry is a columnist,
film critic and a documentary film maker. While he has
handled direction on video format, Surabhi was his maiden
attempt on film format. Surabhi has gone to almost
all the major International Film Festivals and has got
rave reviews from all over. It was a dream come true for
Mr.K.N.T.Sastry
to realize this documentary on the screen. Scarce funds
delayed the project, |
| but in a way it was to
their advantage. It was indeed a challenging job to bring
all these into a 30-minute frame-work of short documentary.
The film avoids the conventional commentary and uses their
stage leader to share their history. Live recording of
music, clippings from their plays, and using them in the
film have given a realistic portrayal - as real as their
pathetic life style captured in the frames. The
documentation is a historical milestone in the cultural map
of Telugu Theatre. |
