Hyderabad’s ace archer Isaiah R. Sanam was crowned the
Asian Champion in the Compound division at the recently held
16th Asian Archery Championship at Bali, Indonesia. A
total of 20 countries participated in the Championship in both
Recurve and Compound divisions.
Indian Archery team had a rich haul of 6 medals at the
tournament including two gold, two silver and two
bronze medals.
Fifteenth
seeded Isaiah R. Sanam triumphed over fourth seeded Nyoman
Purohito of Indonesia
106 to 103 in a nerve wrecking Compound Men’s Individual event final
and claimed the honour of Asian Champion in the category. This was
Isaiah’s maiden gold medal in the Asian Archery Championship. He
progressed in the tournament by beating Hup Vinson Heng of Singapore
by 115 – 113 in the first round; India’s Chinna Raju Srither by 114
– 110 in the second round; drew with Amir Kazempour of
Iran by 108 –
108 in the quarterfinal and in the semifinals beat Korea’s Yong Hee
Choi by 114 – 108.
He added another
feather to his cap by claiming the second
Gold medal at the meet, when the Indian Compound Men’s team
of which he was a member along with Chinna Raju Srither and Kh Ratan
Singh beat Iran in the finals by 231-230. |
