Laxman
"Scores the highest runs in
Indian Test history"
When Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman
walked down to the Eden Gardens to bat after the follow on during the second Test against the invincible
Australians, little did he imagine that he was on his way to create History in Indian
Cricket. At the end of play during the 4th day he broke the 18yrs 236
n.o record of Little Master
Sunil Gavaskar and eventually he went on to hit 281 the highest Test
Score on Indian soil eclipsing West Indian Rohan Kanhai's 256 during the
1958 Kolkata Test.
His score of 281 n.o. at the end of the 4th day's play is the 4th highest individual score against
Australia.
The tall Hyderabadi batsmen has stopped the Australian record of
winning 16 successive test and thereby helped India to win the Test by
171 runs, one of the all time great come back in the history of Test
Cricket.
Indeed a great moment for Indian Cricket and as far as Hyderabad is concerned it is yet another feather in the cap of the city after the superlative
performance of Gopi Chand. Both Gopi and laxman have indeed made the city proud and yes it is the beginning of a new era in Indian sports.
