Hyderabad, October, 2002:
Satyam Chairman B. Ramalinga Raju was awarded the Asia Business
Leader Award 2002 (ABLA) for Corporate Citizen of the Year in the
Asia Business Leader Awards 2002 ceremony held in Hong Kong.
The Asia Business Leader Awards 2002 recognize excellence in
business leadership in Asia. This year’s awards were presented by
CNBC Asia Pacific and TNT Asia, and sponsored by Citigroup Private
Bank. The Awards embody the spirit of the new corporate Asia and
serve to identify exceptional examples of outstanding business
leadership. |
With the theme "Growth through Leadership", this year’s ABLA sought to
recognize leaders who had looked beyond cost cutting and restructuring
to achieve growth. The underlying belief was that such achievements in
leadership would be possible only with a high degree of customer
orientation supported by a strong corporate culture.
The Corporate Citizen of the Year Award acknowledges an outstanding
corporate leader for his contributions to business, environment and
community development and is judged on the basis of the following
criteria:
· Leadership demonstrated in developing human resources
· Fairness to Employees at all levels
· Fostering customer loyalty
· Setting benchmarks for leadership
· Contribution to society
This year’s winners were selected by an independent panel of judges led
by Prof. Dr. Hellmut Schutte, Associate Dean for Executive Education
Asia, INSEAD and a panel comprising leading businessmen, management
thinkers and journalists from all over Asia.
In a message after accepting the award Mr. Raju said I am indeed honored
to have been chosen for this Award. This is clearly a reflection of what
we have done at Satyam as a company, rather than my personal achievement
and I dedicate this award to every Satyamite.
