Who is to be blamed ?
Blame
it on Hyderabadis:
Let us
stop blaming the institutes and see what Hyderabadis are
upto? Let me tell, no where do
you see exhaustive usage of latest technology as much
you see in Hyderabad. Hyderabadis see the
end of any thing new that comes out from the alien land.
Whether it is Granites or Shrimp farming or for that
matter SAP or Peoplesoft, there is always a
Hyderabadi waiting to finish it off. Guess why do
Americans have the best satellite technology to date?
Because they test their cellular technologies in India.
Hence it is more of stature and less of business that
cells are maintained.
What's the reason for this? The Institutes in Hyderabad
had been going flat out to offer gazillion
things like Job offer in US and things like that, If we
take SAP teaching institutes in the last year, for that
matter, they offered jobs in US. Meaning more illegal
papers. It is because of those institutes
that H1B's have been tightened.
Let us see from the perspectives of a Chennai based
US Consulate. Perhaps Chennai based US
consulate is the only consulate that is toughest on its
applicants. Next comes Canadian based US
consulates for Indians. This is b'coz, the Indians
are doing window shopping for US Visa since the
law was made. They went to extremes of changing status
from student to Job visa and other things.
Matter obviously went out of hand and Canadian based US
consultants nailed every Indian they
could find.
In the event of doing so, they have shot into their own
foot by rejecting some genuine candidates.
People like Guru Raj Deshpande and B.Chandrasekhar have
created a good economy for the US citizens.
Who knows how many are entering US with such dynamic
nature. And who knows how many are getting rejected.
Though Govt of AP is providing OLIVE (on-line
Internet Verification Engine) for US ,it still has
loopholes thanks to the incredible handling of records
by the Osmania University.
Blame it on the
Colleges?
Now let us
throw some light on what the under-grad institutes
(Bachelor Colleges) has to offer. A college that has
some graduate courses(P.G) has a Principal who teaches
database systems to MCA students. When I approached them
as a freelance web-programmer and asked if they would
like to get their web-site designed, his answer was "what
would I get if someone watches it on the Internet. It
should be seen by college students". This is the
sorry state of affairs when it comes to Computers.
Suddenly the same person after an year is teaching
JAVA. Students were told that Java was developed by
Microsoft.
First of all students cannot be taught Java without
prior knowledge of Object Orientation. Secondly you need
an expert at teaching Java. There's no problem with such
syllabi being kept but students come out of colleges by
approaching exams just to pass it. Looking at Java in
their certificates, Companies take them and you know the
outcome.
Blame it on
Education System?
Many Engineering students have taken themselves for
granted that they are sure to land in a 10K p.m job. And
as they are thinking, they are getting it. If this is
the case why should one keep B.Sc Computers, B.A triple
maths or for that matter BCA . Let every course be of
engineering order.
Blame it
on the Companies?
Let us now see how the Companies have been behaving.
Every Company wants B.Tech's and M.Tech's
That is their first criteria. The Companies are more
interested to take a below average B.Tech and
train him for six months rather than take an average
B.Sc student and make him do the project for lesser
salary and with more efficiency. Also the criteria to be
considered for top IT giants is the experience. People
ask three to four years of experience in Java. The fact
that Java was released in 96 in USA and it was taught in
the institutes starting 98 in India tells us the point
that four years of experience in Java, if anybody has
should be paid a salary of one Lakh Rs in India. But
still he would be getting $2,500 per month. Why would
anyone want to have that salary when he can easily earn
5-6K $ per month in US? Companies know this fact but
they want to ignore it.
The techie Companies which boast of positions being open
in the region of Human resources does
not follow a simple management information systems
principle of employing 10 people for a salary of
Rs.2,000/-and get the work done instead of paying Rs
25,000 an to an expert (like our below average
engineering candidate) to get the work done. And is the
work then too perfect? It is a doubt. Third, the
companies are not equipped enough technically or
strategically to handle themselves and so how are they
going to the handle the overseas projects? A Company in
Secunderabad had a project for developing Video
Conferencing using Java and JMF (Java Media
Framework). It is usually meant that one software
development project spans six months .This company wants
it to be developed in two weeks. So ,there you have it,
this company is unaware of what the possibilities are of
a typical Software engineering project or its software
related issues.
Things can
go on like this forever if we try to find where the
problem lies. The areas mentioned above are only some
grey mattered ones but if these areas are worked out
then most of things will fall into its place.
Meanwhile it is being reported that the limit for H1
Visas are going to be removed and while Hyderabadis
look for more grey areas to get their H1's........good
luck for your H1B hunting. |
