RUN FOR THE CAUSE OF DIABETES ON NOV.14
Symbolic Run to be held in 23 cities across the country

The Novo Nordisk Education Foundation in India is organising a symbolic run in 23 cities across the
country to heighten public awareness about Diabetes in India on November 14, THE WORLD DIABETES DAY. November
14th is the birthday of Frederick Banting who
discovered insulin along with Charles Best. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and World
Health Organisation (WHO) declared this day as World diabetes Day in 1991 to focus the attention of the
general public, the decision makers and the media worldwide on diabetes.
Novo Nordisk Education Foundation with a mission to
improve health care delivery by facilitating awareness and education hopes to mobilise attention to this
major problem, by organising public awareness programmes like “ RUN FOR DIABETES”.
The theme for this year on World Diabetes Day 1999 is “Life Style in the Next Millennium”.

Of India’s One Billion population 30 million people suffer from Diabetes. By 2025 this number might well
increase to 60 million and sadly only a fraction of these are diagnosed and given proper treatment.
The run will help bring attention on diabetes.Free blood sugar check-up will be offered for the first 250 participants at the
venue .
Novo Nordisk Education Foundation was established in 1998 with focus to educate
general practitioners, nurses, dietitians, diabetes educators and para-medical staff associated with diabetes.
Overtime, the foundation will move into related activities such
as a national resource library, encouragement of centers of excellence, research projects, diabetes
awareness and patient empowerment Programmes.
