India's first metered-taxi service on call launched in city

The Metered taxi services with a hitech radio trunking facility has hit the city roads from this month.
This service has been started under the name "City cabs",with the top four travel agencies -Noor Travels, Vijay
Travels, MBT Travels and Cosy Cabs- who have been in the field for the past 15 years have deployed ten brand new Maruthi vans. In a month, 50 more will be added to the fleet.
The organisers plan to run as many as 200 cabs in the next six months.
The metered taxi has a walkie-talkie in the vehicle fixed above the driver's seat. This can help in track down the vehicle and ask the driver to rush to the place where the vehicle is required. Five persons, including the driver, can travel in the cab.
The minimum fare is Rs.40 and an additional Rs.10 will be charged for every km. The fare will be collected from the starting point of the passenger. Waiting charge will be Rs.1 per minute after a 10 minute wait. Initially, they will be stationed at six strategic places- Hitec city and at five Star hotels.
