Mailjol.com, a free Telugu e-mail service from
mithi.com has introduced the first of its kind interactive experience
to the Indians on the Net. The service is also available in 11 other languages and
English. The service is the first of its kind in providing an interactive experiences to the users of Indian languages on the Web. Based on open standards of
ISCII/Unicode, the system is designed to work with any existing or future software for Indian languages based on these standards .
When a user registers with this service, his/her PC is automatically enabled to exchange messages in Telugu with users of any other mailing
system. The service can be accessed from any PC connected to the Net. Besides Telugu the service works in Assamese, Bengali,
Gujarathi, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi and Tamil. Each registered user gets 5-MB e-mail storage space.
The software used by malijol eliminates the need of downloading or installing fonts. e.g. to type 'Ravi' in Telugu, the
user simply keys in letters 'Ravi' on his keyboard and the text automatically appears in Telugu script on his computer screen.
This free Telugu e-mail service so far as more than 17,000 registered users. Back in 1991-92, the
city-based Mithi.com(formerly Men At Work Pvt Ltd) was among the World's first few companies to have developed the technology for free-form solid
modeller. In 1993,in collaboration with C-DAC, the company developed LEAP, a multilingual word-processor for e-mails, presenting web pages and
printing and publishing in the Indian languages.
