Mild tremors in city 

Mild tremor sent people from their beds to the streets with panic around 2.53 am on 17th Sep'00.The tremor measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale shook them out of the sleep. The tremor did not lead to any loss of life or property except that it scared many people in many localities of Jubilee Hills,Banjara Hills ,HumayunNagar, Begumpet, Ameerpet, Yousufguda,  Srinagar,Erragada,SanjivreddyNagar,Madura Nagar and Krishna Nagar.The epicenter was somewhere around yousufguda. Few walls in these areas developed cracks. People in many localities stayed awake fearing more tremors.



According to NGRI scentists,the tremor was the largest in its intensity since 1982,when an earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richer Scale was recorded with the Gandipet lake as its epicenter. Three years ago a mild tremor also sent panic waves in the Jubilee Hills and it measured 1.8 on the Ritcher scale. The Deccan plateau, has been more stable compared to the regions of the country. In the last 40 years, there have been only four major earthquakes in this plateau, compared to about 45 in the Himalayan region. Among the five seismic zones in India,Hyderabad falls under the most stable belts.
